Can you truly erase cockroaches from your café, pub or restaurant? If you work in the food business, this could seem like an impossible task. After all, these pests are completely ubiquitous. They’re everywhere and will not go away, not matter what you do. The good news is that you can get rid of cockroaches. It’s a lot of hard work, but it can be done. If  you want to erase cockroaches, then follow these tips. 

Regular inspection

If you’re going to erase cockroaches, then you need to stay one step ahead of them at all times. This means routinely inspecting your kitchen and business and apply restaurant pest control. Go over every single piece of the property. Inspect places where you don’t always go. This includes things like cupboards and other out of the way areas. Look for the signs of cockroaches, such as shed skin and faeces. Remember, cockroaches take hold when they find an undisturbed place to live. This is why routine inspections are so important. Alert your staff to the danger of cockroaches and make sure they know how to look for the signs.o

Keep your premises clean

The other problem is food debris. Every time you prepare food, there is debris left behind. This includes things like crumbs falling on the floor. You have to clean this up at the end of every day. Clean and double check your kitchen before turning out the lights. When the lights are off, cockroaches come out and eat food debris in your commercial premises. This is how they can survive and breed in such numbers. Unless you clean up all food debris, you’ll never erase cockroaches.

Get rid of moisture

Cockroaches need moisture to survive. They are also attracted to wet and damp places. Now, kitchens can become humid, but this is why you need adequate ventilation. It’s also important that you take care of things like leaking taps and pipes. Also make sure that there are no damp and dark places. This could include things like disused cupboards. Cockroaches will quickly find these places and take them over.

Take care of food

Cockroaches are attracted to one thing and one thing only – food. If you have these pests, it’s because they’re using your business as a source of food. Without food, they wouldn’t be there. You need to prevent this. The way you do this is by keeping all food tightly sealed away, including when eating al fresco. Food should be kept in tins or plastic containers. It should be stored in pantries and cupboards which seal tightly. We cannot emphasize this enough – do not let cockroaches get at food!

Rubbish

This is by far the most important step when it comes to getting rid of pests like cockroaches. Rubbish attracts them. You must dispose of waste properly and do it as often as possible. All bins must have lids which shut tightly. Bins should also be washed as often as possible.
